Overview

Course Description:

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD): From Assessment to Advanced Management is a comprehensive, clinically focused course designed to help you confidently manage CKD patients across all stages of the disease.

You will start by building a strong understanding of kidney function and CKD pathophysiology, then progress to mastering CKD staging based on GFR and albuminuria using internationally recognized guidelines such as KDIGO.

You will learn how to identify the causes and progression of CKD, interpret laboratory findings, and assess patients using a structured clinical approach. The course also focuses heavily on CKD complications, including anemia, electrolyte imbalances, mineral and bone disorders (CKD-MBD), and cardiovascular risks.

In addition, you will develop practical skills in drug dosing adjustments in renal impairment, use of erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs), phosphate binders, vitamin D therapy, and blood pressure management.

You will also gain a clear understanding of renal replacement therapy (RRT), including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, and when to initiate these interventions.

By the end of this course, you will be able to manage CKD patients holistically, from early detection to advanced-stage complications and dialysis.

Why Is This Course Essential?

Chronic kidney disease is a progressive condition that affects millions of patients worldwide and is associated with serious complications if not properly managed.

This course is essential because it will help you:

  • Understand how to detect and stage CKD early using GFR and clinical markers
  • Identify and manage CKD complications such as anemia, electrolyte imbalance, and bone disease
  • Apply evidence-based pharmacological treatments to slow disease progression
  • Optimize drug dosing in renal impairment to prevent toxicity
  • Recognize when to initiate dialysis and advanced interventions

Managing CKD effectively is a critical skill for improving long-term patient outcomes and quality of life, especially in hospital and outpatient settings.
